Why are we here?

Day 8: Israeli museum, Holocaust museum, Mt. of Olives, Gethsemane, and free time in Jerusalem.

Just a few moments before our farewell dinner to recap today’s activities:

• Sights at the Israeli museum: Scale model of 1^st century Jerusalem and Dead Sea scrolls
• Reflective time at the Holocaust museum. Trees honoring the heroes of the Holocaust surround the museum itself. After our time walking through the museum, we paused at the tree of Corrie Ten Boom and her family.
• At the Mt. of Olives, Wes asked us “why are we here?” It’s true we could see the temple mount, now with the Dome of Rock and Muslim house of worship. We could also see the Church of the Holy Sepulchre….but ultimately, we were viewing a picture of the futility of putting our treasure on earth. And a reminder that the gospel made it to us from this very city, so now we are to take it to others. Our time visiting the Mt. of Olives and area of Gethsemane ended  listening to the words of Isaiah 53 and then individual time with the Lord, spread out amongst the trees.
• End of the day: Free time in Jerusalem followed by a farewell dinner!

Heading home to Houston tomorrow blessed by all we’ve seen!
