Now that we’ve returned from our study tour you’ll hopefully be able to talk to one of us in person about what we saw, heard, learned, and experienced!
Below is a wrap up video that serves as a nice summary of the trip and a reminder of all that we did.

Our final day here in Israel was spent walking through the Israeli museum. Here we got to see what the first century Jerusalem would have looked like during the time of Christ. The museum has a large model of the old city of Jerusalem. It was cool to have a visual to add to the picture that was painted in our minds by our tour guide. Having walked those very streets the day before gave a unique perspective to the model.

Today we spent the entire day exploring the city of Jerusalem. We started by entering the Muslim controlled Dome of the Rock area on top of the city. This is where the temple would have stood thousands of years ago. We also toured the western wall and the many tunnels beneath the city. Even to this day, this is the closest Jewish people can get to the Holy of Holies in the ruins of the temple. Because the current city is built on multiple older cities, the first century city during the time of Jesus is close to 50 feet below the current streets. We were able to see how many centuries of growth and expansion truly buried the past.

Today we drove from the north and the Sea of Galilee towards the coast and ultimately towards Jerusalem. Our first stop was Bet she’an which was a city located on one of the most significant locations in Israel because it is the only valley that runs east to west between the mountains. This is the Jezreel valley. Along this valley many of the battles in the bible took place.

Today we visited many different ancient towns such as Dan. This city is one of the oldest sites in Israel dating back about 3-4000 years. It was crazy to see some of the walls still standing! There is also a temple that was built here by Jeroboam when the kingdom of Israel was split.

Today we started our day with a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee. Our guide gave us an orientation to the entire region as we floated in the middle of the lake. From there we hiked to the top of Mount Arbel. This mountain has an incredible view of the entire region where Jesus spent the majority of his life and ministry.

We spent the morning exploring Masada. Standing on top of the plateau we were able to see all around the area but most importantly the King’s Road, along which all trade would move. It is so easy to over look the significance of these sites when reading through bible because they aren’t given strong significance. Though the importance of these places help paint the picture of the culture and history of the people of Israel.

The first place that we visited today was Bet Shemesh. We spent about an hour talking about the area and read through Judges 13-16 focusing on the story of Samson. From the top of the tel we were able to see all the way to the coast where the philistines had their five major cities. Our guide Ronen told the story of Samson, using the land to explain the biblical cities and valleys.

After a very long day and a half of travel we have arrived in Israel at 11:30pm. Our travels were not over quite yet as we still had another 45 minute bus ride to our hotel located in the mountains. Our guide Ronan informed us that this was near the same area that the arc of the covenant remained for 20 years after returned by the philistines.

Our trip to Israel will be here before you know it!
Once we’re on the ground in Israel, we’ll post periodic updates and photos. Check back often or get update notifications using the subscribe options on this page.
We’ll be sharing our travel experiences online with you, our friends and family, to not only bring you along on the journey with us, but to also solicit your ongoing prayer and support. Most of us on this trip have been preparing mentally and spiritually for what will be a life-changing experience in the land. We’re also preparing physically as we train our bodies to handle all the time we’ll spend on our feet walking. So please pray that we would be diligent in our preparations and we would all be ready to learn what God has to teach us!
