We started Valentine’s Day way earlier than our friends back in the USA and we are LOVING it. Today was a travel day as we sadly left the peaceful shores of Galilee. Today was a rough day for weather. Cold winds and rain made for difficult travel.
Our first stop was Nazareth where we headed up to the top of Mt. Precipice. It was a beautiful view but bitterly cold. Matt began a great teaching about Jesus’ claims to be God but then people just started walking out because they were too cold. Matt wisely chose to have us finish his talk in the bus.

We spent today in Rome! Well, not actually in Rome but in two Roman cities of the Decapolis. The first of these was Bet Shean.
We entered the back gate of the site in the pouring rain. We questioned whether or not we should do the hike but we persisted and made it through. We placed ourselves in the mindset of a child from a small village near Galilee (like Chorazin or Capernaum) and we were traveling to Jericho and then Jerusalem, but on the way we pass the opulent city of Bet Shean.

We all played dress-up today in Katzrin as we did the cultural experience of pressing oil, baking bread and seeing what life would be like in homes during biblical times. Everyone had fun taking part in all these activities and it helped us understand the every day parts of life more tangibly.

Today was our first full day in the land of Israel. We began with a delicious breakfast in the hotel where many enjoyed some different options like herring, gnocchi, olives and cheesecake in addition to some staples of cheese, scrambled eggs and cereal. Coffee was the most sought after item on the menu with everyone feeling a bit overwhelmed from the long travel.
FINALLY UNITED – the California and Michigan groups are together at last and we are getting along splendidly. It has been a pleasure for me (Eric) to get to know many of these wonderful people.

The Calvary Church crew from both California and Michigan are finally on our way. After countless hours of learning, physical training, shopping, packing and praying we are actually getting on the airplane. Please pray for safety as we travel and for fresh minds and bodies when we hit the road outside of Jerusalem on what will be Wednesday morning. Shalom!

Our trip to Israel will be here before you know it!
Once we’re on the ground in Israel, we’ll post periodic updates and photos. Check back often or get update notifications using the subscribe options on this page.
We’ll be sharing our travel experiences online with you, our friends and family, to not only bring you along on the journey with us, but to also solicit your ongoing prayer and support. Most of us on this trip have been preparing mentally and spiritually for what will be a life-changing experience in the land. We’re also preparing physically as we train our bodies to handle all the time we’ll spend on our feet walking. So please pray that we would be diligent in our preparations and we would all be ready to learn what God has to teach us!
