Covenant Faithfulness

Today we visited Gamla first and learned about part of the war between zealots and Romans. We also learned about the concept of "chanaf" the Hebrew word for wing. That God carries His people on the wings of eagles. After Gamla we went to a reconstructed first century Israeli town and learned a bit about what life would have been like at that time. Then we finished our discussion of "chanaf".

Gamla

Known sometimes as the “Masada of the North,” Gamla is most famous for its strong defense against the Romans in the Jewish Revolt in AD 66. The site is bordered on all sides by deep wadis of the Golan Heights and is approachable by only one footpath from the northeast. The earliest settlement was in the Early Bronze Age and the site was reinhabited by returning exiles from Babylon. Herod the Great settled Jews here to populate his border cities.

Next we went to the Golan Heights and discussed modern relations between Israel and Syria. We were told that even though there is a lot of conflict with Syria, Israeli people would like peace and hate the killing happening in Syria. After that we saw cesarea phillipi and talked about what rock is Jesus going to build His church on. While we were there we walked by a beautiful river in a Basalt canyon.

Caesarea Philippi

This abundant water supply has made the area very fertile and attractive for religious worship. Numerous temples were built at this city in the Hellenistic and Roman periods.

Our last spot today was the city of Dan. This is the place where Jeroboam put a gold calf when he seceded from Judah. Here we talked about what it means to be holy men of God. Overall Today we have learned about trusting the God that saves us and made us, trusting that He will keep His "chesed", His covenant faithfulness.

Tel Dan

On the northern frontier of the kingdom, Dan was particularly well fortified. This gatehouse was built in the ninth century BCE, probably by Ahab, and is part of a series of gateways discovered.
