Walking by faith
Wow! What a jam-packed day we had today!
Sea of Galilee
The day started out with a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee. We paused midway and took time to read Matthew 14:22-33 where Jesus walks on water in the storm and Peter's faith is lacking when he steps out onto the water and he begins to sink. We are reminded that we should walk by faith and not by sight.
Mount Arbel
We traveled to the top of Mt. Arbel on the western side of the Sea of Galilee near Magdala. It is possible this is the place where Jesus prayed concerning the disciples he was about to call.
Mount Arbel
Mount Arbel (Hebrew: הר ארבל, Har Arbel) is a mountain in The Lower Galilee near Tiberias in Israel, with high cliffs, views of Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights, trails to a cave-fortress, and ruins of an ancient synagogue. Mt. Arbel sits across from Mount Nitai; their cliffs were created as a result of the Jordan Rift Valley and the geological faults that produced the valleys.
Magdala
Discovered in 2009, the lost city of Magdala is still an archaeological dig site on the Western side of the Sea of Galilee. Here we got to view the ruins of this city and see one of only two synagogues from the first century that have been found. Biblical evidence points to this being a synagogue that Jesus taught in.
Mount of Beatitudes
It is here that Jesus gives his sermon on the mount in Matthew 5. Here Jesus is telling us that the bar or standard that we are to aspire to is actually much higher than we think. We are far worse than we think we are and that our response to Jesus should be like the leper in Matthew 8. Ultimately everything is about what He has done for us. We can do nothing on our own and Jesus has already taken care of everything.
Mount of Beatitudes
The so-called “Sermon on the Mount” is recorded in Matthew 5-7 and Luke 6. The alleged discrepancy between Matthew’s version being on a hill and Luke’s being on a level place is easily reconciled with observation of many level places on the Galilean hillsides. Scripture gives no indication of the exact location of this event, but the Byzantines built a church to commemorate it at the bottom of the hill. Some of Napoleon’s men placed it on the nearby Arbel mountain.
Tabgha
Located between Magdala and Capernaum, this is the place where Jesus calls Simon Peter in Luke 5 to follow him. It is also the place in John 20 and 21 where Jesus restores Peter after he denied Him 3 times.
Capernaum
This is the "base camp" of Jesus' ministry and where he performed most of His miracles. Jesus comes to Capernaum after living in Nazareth for 30 years. It is here that Jesus heals the Leper, and the Centurion's servant.

Capernaum
Jesus made Capernaum his home during the years of his ministry: “Leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum” (Matt 4:13).
Peter, Andrew, James and John were fishermen living in the village. Matthew the tax collector also dwelt here.
Capernaum is one of the three cities cursed by Jesus for its lack of faith.
