Now that we’ve returned from our study tour you’ve hopefully be able to talk to one of us in person about what we saw, heard, learned, and experienced!

Below is a wrap up video that serves as a nice summary of the trip and a reminder of all that we did.

The Lord is God the Lord Alone

March 26, 2015

It’s not every day that you begin your day on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. But today, that is exactly how our day began. Our guide walked us through the history of Mount Moriah and the first and second temples that were eventually built on the same place where God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. Visiting the Temple Mount is always a bittersweet experience as it is filled with so much rich Biblical history and, yet, is so filled with so much tension. Nevertheless, we were grateful to have the opportunity.

David & Bethlehem

March 24, 2015

Today was a day that many of us have been looking forward to on the trip. We’ve been exited about seeing some of our most favorite Bible stories in their locations and learn about them and today we got to do just that!

Our day started at Beth Shemesh with the story of Samson and Delilah. We learned that our desires can be hard to resist if our eyes are not focused on the Lord. It was so special to us to be able to have the Soreq Valley in view right in front of us as we learned the different components (and lessons) of that story.

Nazareth and more

March 23, 2015

Today was a big day! We traveled all through the middle of Israel.

We left the Sea of Galilee this morning. Our devotion was on the edge of the Sea of Galilee as our last chance at the water to dwell on what we have learned over the past five days! We traveled from the east side of the Sea of Galilee to Nazareth. It is about a day’s walk in Jesus time to get from Galilee to Nazareth. There we talked some about Jesus childhood and the beginning of His ministry. The teachers in the synagogue rejected Christ as Messiah, took him up to the Mount Precipice to throw him down. We sat on the top of this Mount that overlooks the Jezreel Valley we were in yesterday.

Whom Shall I Fear?

March 22, 2015

Today was such a big day that we needed every drop of daylight to fit everything in!

We started with our own Sunday morning worship service on a boat in the middle of the Sea of Galilee! What an amazing experience it was! Not only was it beautiful, we even got to experience a small rainstorm while we were out in the middle of the sea. It was such a meaningful picture for us. It helped us understand what the Text teaches us in Mark 4: that Jesus is the only one worthy of our fear.

Who Do You Say That I Am?

March 21, 2015

Today we experienced rain in the Promised Land! During Biblical times rain was one kind of “Living Water” considered a great blessing in the land of Israel, and it continues to be so today.

We began our Shabbat day with a hike through the Caesarea Philippi region where we stopped by Bannais Falls which flows down into the Jordan River. Again we saw a picture of how water in Israel always comes from a rock. We continued along our hike through what felt like a vision of the Garden of Eden and were all in amazement at the beauty of creation surrounding us. In contrast to our first day in Israel in the wilderness/desert, today we were surrounded by the vivid colors of spring and were refreshed to be surrounded with the sights and sounds of fresh water. I found myself reflecting on how wonderful it will be one day when with unveiled eyes we will be able to fully see and experience God’s creation as it was originally intended. What a glorious day that will be!

Shabbat Shalom!

March 20, 2015

Shabbat Shalom from Galilee!

Today was another tremendous day! Our morning began at the ancient ruins of Gamla. Ronen told us about the story of the Zealots who fortified themselves on the hill in revolt against the Roman armies. He also explained to us the story of the famous 1st century historian, Josephus Flavius, and how it was connected to the story of Gamla and the Zealots. Then, we hiked down into the ruins of the city and Jake encouraged us to remember that our zeal must not be without knowledge (and that our knowledge shouldn’t lack in zeal – see Romans 10:1-3).

His Word is Life

March 18, 2015

I can hardly believe that I am currently writing this from Israel. What an incredible blessing it is to be in this place and to be studying God’s word with people so near to my heart! When asked what I was most excited for on this trip, I responded with what the Lord had put on my heart as a prayer for our time here. This year, our class’ purpose statement is “to expose our true identity through community under the Word.” My prayer for our time here is that our hearts would be one as we sat under teaching of God’s Word, and that it would take root in our lives in such a way that submission to the very Words of God would mark the rest of our lives. The theme for our trip is an opportunity for faith, and today we spent a lot of time talking about the place of God’s Word in our lives.

Flourishing in the Desert

March 17, 2015

Shalom from the Salt Sea! Today was a tremendous first day of our tour! We had great weather and learned many valuable lessons about how God wants to use the wilderness to grow us into the faithful people he has called us to be.

Our morning began with a majestic overlook of the Makhtesh. It’s an enormous geological phenomenon that occurs only in Israel. It’s possible that the Nation of Israel may have wandered here after the Exodus. The entire lesson was focused on following as one of the essential elements of faith in our lives. We walked through the Exodus story together (as we hiked through some of the very same wilderness!!!) and considered all that God was doing – not to just get Israel out of Egypt, but Egypt out of Israel.

Shalom from Israel!

March 16, 2015

Shalom from Israel! We can hardly believe that we are in Israel right now! It was a long trip getting over here but it was a good one, smooth, and without incident. Although we’re tired from travel, we are all so excited to be here we it doesn’t seem to matter. In fact, we even got to make one little mini-stop on the way down to our hotel tonight: Beersheba! We just stopped on the side of the road (surrounded by two shepherds and their sheep of course) and our Israeli guide, Ronen introduced us to the land of Israel.
